So not that long ago I posted a thread announcing Fhaolan as the newest Administrator here on MLPF. I wanted this announcement to be whimsical, which is something I tend to go for with most of them. I had an idea of tying it into Season Six somehow, and after a few minutes of internal brainstorming ... I had the theme. I wanted Troblems/Matron, Spoon/Yellow Diamond, and myself standing around a foal Fhaolan. I hadn't yet commissioned Crecious ... but having seen their work ... pinged Crecious and offered them the opportunity to create the below image.
Now, I have a rule when I commission any artwork. I give a general ... vague idea of what I want. I prefer to allow the artist to have free reign in interpreting what I want since I am paying for their expertise. I have over directed in the past and I found that giving the artist a general concept producing better results. In this situation those instructions were:
"Admin OC's ... looking at baby Fhao shocked"
Crecious started asking the appropriate probing questions ... what should the background be, etc. Crecious made the suggestion to make Spoon a Ponified Yellow Diamond since there is an unfortunate lack of a Spoon ponyosa. :okiedokielokie:
Then over the next day and a half I received a constant stream of work-in-progress images awaiting my approval throughout the process. That sort of communication is precisely what I love about Crecious. You have the opportunity to make adjustments if needed, and in a weird way Crecious makes this feel more like a partnership than a buyer/payer relationship. Communication is perfect. The completion time was likewise astonishing. Crecious may not rush orders ahead of others, but the overall speed makes it feel like there is a rush.
Now to the piece in question. Upon seeing the final product, it generated the largest smile and gut laugh I had for days. If it could produce that reaction on someone who came up with the idea and saw the WIP's as they were made, then I suspected Crecious nailed what I was going for. I can tell you the reaction it got from Fhaolan was beautiful.
I would say without hesitation that commissioning Crecious was a great idea, and I will be doing so again.
